Grass Roots Farmers Co-op
Arkansas & farms across the U.S.
Our Story
Grass Roots Farmers' Cooperative is a farmer-owned network of independent American farms united by a commitment to regenerative agriculture, ethical animal raising, and a more sustainable food system.
Founded in Arkansas, the cooperative has grown to include more than 40 small farms across the United States, with strong roots in the South, including farms in Arkansas and Mississippi. Its mission is to provide an alternative to industrial livestock production while ensuring farmers receive fair compensation for their work.
Grass Roots brings together farmers who believe that raising animals responsibly and caring for the land go hand in hand. Their offerings include 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb, forest-raised pork, and pasture-raised poultry.
By connecting independent farms with customers who value transparency, animal welfare, and sustainable agriculture, Grass Roots helps preserve a way of farming that prioritizes healthy soil, thriving animals, and strong rural communities.
Production Practices
Grass Roots Farmers' Cooperative practices regenerative agriculture, an approach that seeks to restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and improve the long-term sustainability of farmland.
Their farmers use rotational grazing to move livestock between pastures, allowing vegetation to recover naturally while supporting healthy soil and diverse ecosystems.
Cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, spending their lives on pasture without grain supplementation. Pigs are raised in forested environments where they can root and forage naturally, while chickens and turkeys have regular access to fresh pasture. Pigs and poultry receive supplemental non-GMO feed to meet their nutritional needs.
All Grass Roots animals are born, raised, and harvested in the United States and are never treated with antibiotics or growth hormones.
The cooperative also participates in the Land to Market verification program, which evaluates ecological outcomes related to soil health, biodiversity, water, and carbon.
Through these practices, Grass Roots aims to produce high-quality meat while supporting animal welfare, restoring agricultural land, and providing fair compensation to independent farmers.
