Mauthe Farms
McComb, MS
Our Story
Mauthé Farms is a third and fourth-generation family dairy farm located in McComb, Mississippi, with roots stretching back to New Orleans in 1933.
The family's dairy tradition began in the Lower Ninth Ward, where Henry Mauthe Sr. delivered fresh milk door-to-door. His son, Henry Mauthe Jr., followed in his footsteps, carrying forward a commitment to providing fresh, wholesome dairy products to the local community.
Today, the family continues that tradition on its 40-acre farm in southwest Mississippi, just a few miles from the Louisiana state line. While much of the dairy industry has shifted toward large-scale production, Mauté Farms remains dedicated to traditional farming methods, including bottling milk in glass bottles on the farm.
Known for its milk, butter, yogurt, and traditional Creole cream cheese, Mauté Farms continues to preserve a piece of the region's agricultural and culinary heritage while serving families throughout Louisiana and Mississippi.
Production Practices
Mauté Farms operates as a grass-based dairy, prioritizing the natural grazing habits of its cows and traditional methods of milk production.
Their cows spend time grazing on grass and other pasture plants, with a small amount of supplemental grain provided during milking. This approach allows the animals to consume a diet centered on natural forage while supporting their health and well-being.
Unlike most conventional dairy milk, Mauté Farms' milk is pasteurized but never homogenized. By leaving the milk non-homogenized, the farm preserves its natural cream separation, allowing the cream to rise to the top.
The family also bottles milk in reusable-style glass bottles on the farm, continuing a longstanding dairy tradition. Through its emphasis on pasture grazing, minimal processing, and small-scale family farming, Mauté Farms works to provide fresh dairy products while maintaining a close connection to the land and its agricultural heritage.
